ConsentPay: Signed Payment Authorizations Without Handling Full Card Numbers
ConsentPay sends the debtor a secure link, they sign on their own device in English or Spanish, and the signed PDF files itself on the account.
A signed authorization on file beats a note that says "consumer agreed."
Summary
ConsentPay collects a signed payment authorization from a debtor through a secure email link.
Fees are set automatically from state and card-type rules, or entered by hand where no rule exists.
Only the last four digits of a card are ever collected.
Key takeaways
Load your state fee rules before agents start using it.
Set a default authorization template agents get first.
Void and recreate any request with wrong details.
What ConsentPay does
ConsentPay is a separately licensed 502ZONE module that collects a signed payment authorization from a debtor. You create it from an account; the debtor receives a secure link by email, signs on their own phone or computer in English or Spanish, and the signed PDF is filed on the account automatically. Only the last four digits of a card are ever collected.
Creating an authorization
- Click ConsentPay, then the Authorize tab. Find the account and click Authorize (or, from an account, click + Authorization).
- Check the authorizing debtor and type the payer's email.
- Choose the state; it decides the processing fee.
- Choose the payment method and enter the last four digits when asked.
- Send.
What you can do afterward
- Copy link: send the signing link another way.
- Void: cancel it if details were wrong, then create a new one.
- Reminders go out using the reminder template.
Fee rules by state
Convenience fees are regulated differently across states, so ConsentPay uses rules you configure. Under Add / update rule, enter the two-letter state, choose the card type and enter the fee. Delete a rule from its row. For bulk setup, import a CSV with the columns `state, card_type, fee`. Without a rule for a state and card type, the agent enters the fee by hand. Have counsel confirm your fee rules.
Email templates
ConsentPay sends two kinds of email: an authorization request and a reminder. Create or edit templates under Email Templates with a name, kind and subject. Merge tags fill in details automatically, including client name, account number, amount, fee, total, signing link, expiration, company name, legal name, address, phone, disclosure and accent color. Tick Default for new requests to make one template the first choice for agents.
Why it matters
- Evidence: a signed, timestamped PDF on the account.
- Consumer convenience: sign on their own device, in their language.
- Less risk: no full card numbers in your system.
- Consistency: the same disclosures and fee logic every time.
For background on why this matters, see digital credit card authorization in collections and ACH authorization must follow the payment.
Good practices
- Load state rules before rollout.
- Keep templates reviewed for disclosures.
- Train agents to void and recreate rather than edit around mistakes.
- Check that the signed PDF appears on the account after each authorization.
