How Nexum Calculates Collector Commissions on the Agency Fee
In Nexum, collectors earn a percentage of the agency's fee, not of the raw payment, with tiers based on what they collect each month.
Pay collectors on what the agency earns, and the incentives line up.
Summary
Agent commission is calculated on the agency's fee, which is the payment multiplied by the client's fee percentage.
Tiers define the commission rate for minimum monthly collection levels.
Agencies set default tiers and can give individual agents their own.
Key takeaways
Set each client's fee percentage accurately on the Clients screen.
Define default tiers before the first payroll.
Use agent-specific tiers sparingly and document why.
How commissions work
In Nexum, each agent earns a percentage of the agency's fee, not of the raw payment. The agency's fee on a payment is the payment amount times the client's fee percentage, which is set on the Clients screen.
The percentage the agent earns depends on how much they collected that month, using tiers.
A worked example
A client pays the agency 22 percent of what it collects. A collector brings in a $1,000 payment.
- Agency fee: $1,000 × 22% = $220.
- The collector's tier for the month is 30%.
- Commission: $220 × 30% = $66.
Paying on the agency fee keeps incentives aligned with what the agency actually earns. A payment on a low-fee client is worth less to the agency, and the commission reflects that.
What a tier is
A tier says: collect at least this much in the month, and earn this rate. For example:
- $0 and up: 10%
- $15,000 and up: 20%
- $30,000 and up: 30%
An agent below the lowest minimum is shown as below tier.
Setting default tiers
In Back Office → Commission Reports, click Manage Default Tiers. Enter the minimum monthly collected amount and the commission rate (as a percentage of the agency fee), then click Add Default Tier. Repeat for each level.
Agent-specific tiers
Some agents may need different terms, such as senior collectors or a specialty desk. Open the agent's tiers; if they use the defaults, the window says so. To give them their own, enter a minimum monthly collected amount and rate and click Add Tier. Delete a tier with the delete button and confirm.
Use agent-specific tiers sparingly and record why, so payroll stays explainable.
Commission rules in CRM Settings
The rules the whole CRM runs on, including commission settings, live in CRM Settings, which super admins control.
Good practices
- Make sure every client's fee percentage is correct before payments post.
- Publish the tier table to collectors so they know the targets.
- Reconcile commission reports against posted payments each pay period.
- Handle reversals and refunds consistently.
Why it matters
Commission disputes damage morale and waste supervisor time. When the calculation is automatic, based on the agency fee and clear tiers, collectors trust it and payroll takes minutes.
