Security Questionnaires Should Produce Evidence, Not Promises

"Yes" isn't evidence. Nexum lets agencies answer client security questionnaires with screenshots, logs and settings, not promises.

"Yes" is an answer. A screenshot, a policy and a name is evidence.

Summary

Security questionnaires collect yes/no answers nobody can verify.

Asking for evidence and an owner on every answer turns a form into due diligence.

Nexum makes its key controls visible, so agencies can produce evidence fast.

Key takeaways

Add "evidence" and "owner" to every important question.

Prioritize access, credentials, logging, backups and incidents.

Build your evidence pack from Nexum's live controls.

Why questionnaires disappoint

Agencies send them to vendors, and creditors send them to agencies. Hundreds of yes/no questions, easy to answer, impossible to rely on.

Add two columns

For every question that matters, ask for:

Evidence. Something that shows the control exists: a policy excerpt, a configuration screenshot, a log sample, a test result, a third-party report.

Owner. The role responsible for operating the control.

"Do you require multi-factor authentication?" becomes: "Show the setting that enforces it for all staff accounts, and tell us who reviews exceptions."

Focus on what matters most

You can't verify 300 questions deeply. Prioritize:

  1. Access control: who can reach consumer data and production systems; how access is granted, reviewed and removed.
  2. Authentication: multi-factor sign-in enforcement.
  3. Credential management: where API keys and service passwords live.
  4. Encryption: sensitive fields and data in transit.
  5. Logging: what's logged, retention and who reviews it.
  6. Backups and restoration: last successful restore test.
  7. Patching: timelines for critical fixes.
  8. Incident response: the plan, the last exercise, and notification commitments.
  9. Subprocessors: which third parties touch the data.

Read the answers critically

Watch for vague language ("industry-standard," "bank-level"), answers that describe intentions rather than current practice, and evidence that doesn't match the question.

Use the same discipline for your own answers

Creditor clients will send your agency questionnaires. Build an evidence pack in advance: policies, screenshots of key settings, access review records, backup test results and your incident plan. It speeds up onboarding and builds credibility. See enterprise readiness starts with uncomfortable questions.

What Nexum lets you show

Two-factor sign-in, roles with per-user App Access, sign-in history for the last 100 sign-ins per user, suspension, the time clock, SSNs encrypted and shown as the last four digits, a single encrypted Service Credentials vault, File Sharing with expiring links and an activity log, and client portal scoping. Plus proprietary code that isn't published, deployed in your own AWS account.

The bottom line

Evidence wins audits and placements. Nexum puts the evidence on screen. See vendor security evidence.
